Lecturer (Education and Research) in Digital Media

Job description The Department of Digital Humanities wishes to appoint a Lecturer (Education and Research) in Digital Media. We are seeking a passionate researcher and educator with an excellent track record in the field of Digital Media, and/or demonstrable potential to work towards such a record. Research engagement with one of more of the Department s areas of interest in Digital Media is required, including, non-exhaustively, digital innovation , digital new media, digital politics and activism and digital audiences; and other areas which touch on the social and cultural dynamics of Digital Media. This is a major opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to contribute to our emerging teaching and research profile in this critical area through their research and publications and through grant capture. The postholder will be required to contribute original and innovative teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate levels, and to undertake supervision of Masters and PhD students in the field.   Candidates will contribute to the life and reputation of the Department, the Faculty, and the College through taking on an appropriate administrative role, contributing to internal networks and collaborations, taking part in external national and international activities, and undertaking industry and public engagement where appropriate. We especially welcome applications from members of under-represented communities, and from those who are willing to contribute proactively to our ongoing conversations about reducing inequality at King s, and in academia more broadly. This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract until 31 August 2025. Key responsibilities Conduct high-quality original research and produce publications as appropriate  Contribute to future external Research Excellence Framework evaluations (or equivalent). Fulfil the Department and Faculty s ethos of translating their research into the design and delivery of high-quality teaching Be accountable for the delivery of high-quality teaching to students, both online and on campus Plan and manage their own teaching Create online lectures and seminars and make teaching material available through the learning system Develop and improve teaching materials and reading lists, and where appropriate, interactive and practice led activities Assist in the preparation and assessment of assignments for core and optional modules Undertake the marking of coursework assignments and dissertations for core and optional modules Undertake supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students Undertake pastoral support of students where needed Evaluate current provision and identify areas for improvement particularly around student feedback Collaborate with the team in ensuring that students needs are identified and responded to in a timely fashion Respond to student feedback and to the further improvement and strategic development of Programmes and modules Develop internal networks and external networks that foster collaboration and contribute to the management of teaching and research quality, audit and other external assessments Assist with admission of future students Undertake administrative and leadership positions as required Engage in professional development as appropriate The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.   Skills, knowledge, and experience  Essential criteria   A PhD in a relevant area (completed or submitted at the time of application),   An in-depth understanding of research and teaching in the field of Digital Media  A track record of excellent research publications, or potential for one  Experience of teaching and student supervision at all levels and for a multi-cultural audience Experience of the development of learning materials and pedagogic innovation in teaching, both in person and online Ability to communicate clearly and convincingly both orally and in writing to a wide range of individuals and groups, including overseas students, academic and professional services colleagues, and our cultural and industry partners A good knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning approaches in higher education and the ability to enthuse students with innovative teaching methods Experience of effective assessment, marking, and provision of feedback for students Excellent organisation skills and ability to work on own initiative Experience of online teaching Desirable criteria   A teaching qualification in higher education Work experience relevant to the field
